The New Zealand Association of Breast Cancer Research (NZABC®) Incorporated organises a one-day Breast Cancer Research Workshop on Friday 22nd November 2019 from 9:30am – 3:30pm. It is hosted by the University of Waikato, Hamilton, New Zealand. Dr Linda Peters is the Convenor of this workshop.
This workshop is the first of such kind in New Zealand and will provide a unique opportunity for all breast cancer researchers in Aotearoa to meet together and network. The aim is to have a workshop held every November to allow ongoing opportunities to connect and learn, in-between the triennial New Zealand Breast Cancer Symposium (NZBCS), which is a much bigger event and attended by a broader range of domestic and international participants. The NZBCS-2017 was the inaugural symposium and the next one, NZBCS-2020, will be held from 12-14 November 2020 in Auckland, New Zealand. Abstracts Submission and Registration are both open now. Breast cancer research has made significant progress in New Zealand in recent years. Many high-quality and innovative research projects have been funded by the HRC Breast Cancer Research in New Zealand partnership programme. We have invited some of the PIs of these funded projects to deliver talks on their current breast cancer research. These talks cover a wide range of breast cancer research and management from early detection, therapeutic target discovery, to personalised treatment through precision medicine and surgery. It has been known for a long time that breast cancer varies in race and ethnicity. We have talks that address these differences and racial disparities in incidence rates and outcomes.
In addition to the keynote speeches, we invite participants to give a short (5 min) introductory presentation of their research interests and plans on breast cancer research. It will be a showcase to publicise your research and may breed new collaborations - which is something NZABC® hopes to help foster.
We welcome all researchers and practitioners interested in the latest progress in breast cancer research and treatment to engage with peers to exchange ideas and potentially collaborate. Moreover, all participants are eligible for claiming Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Credits/Points. The workshop has been endorsed by two medical professional bodies: The College of Nurses Aotearoa (NZ) (6 hours' professional development approved) and The New Zealand Institute of Medical Laboratory Science (NZIMLS). For GPs who attend the event and want to claim CPD credits/points for The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (RNZGP), please complete The Learning Reflection Form.
